Experience the Boston Symphony Orchestra
Even if you're not a classical music aficionado, attending one of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's (BSO) world-renowned performances at Symphony Hall is a must. The BSO, which began its illustrious performances in 1881, offers a diverse range of shows—from family-friendly productions to traditional concerts and the lively Boston Pops, featuring a variety of music and singing. Performances at Symphony Hall take place from September through April, after which the symphony relocates to Tanglewood, approximately 130 miles west of Boston, for the summer season.
Amenities at Symphony Hall
Symphony Hall is not just about the music; it also features convenient amenities including restrooms, a cafe, several bars, and a lovely gift shop to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable.
Tours of Symphony Hall
If you can't secure tickets to a performance, consider taking a complimentary tour of Symphony Hall. These tours are available in the fall, winter, and spring, providing valuable insights into the property, the orchestra's musicians, and conductors. It's a great way to appreciate the rich history and inner workings of the BSO.
Getting There
Symphony Hall is conveniently located on the southern edge of Boston's Back Bay area, near Northeastern University. Visitors can easily access the venue by using one of the four nearby "T" stations: Symphony, Massachusetts Avenue, Hynes Convention Center, and Prudential, all of which are within walking distance.
Purchasing Tickets
General Admission
Tickets for BSO performances can be purchased through the orchestra's website, in person at the box office, or by phone. Prices vary depending on the performance and seating category.
Discounted Tickets
A limited number of BSO Rush Tickets—discounted tickets for select performances—are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the box office.
Important Considerations
Please note that children under the age of 5 are not permitted to attend orchestra events. Additionally, the BSO suggests business or semiformal attire for attendance at performances, ensuring an elegant and respectful atmosphere for all.
