Introduction to the Museum
Located on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, this museum holds the distinction of being the state's only research and teaching museum. With an impressive collection that includes more than 1.4 million artifacts and specimens, the museum showcases Alaskan art spanning over 2,000 years. Among the art pieces are paintings, sculptures, and ancient ivory carvings.
Notable Specimens
The museum's notable specimens include a 36,000-year-old mummified bison named Blue Babe and the state's largest public display of Alaskan gold. A unique exhibit, "The Place Where You Go to Listen," features a sound and light installation controlled by the real-time positions of the sun and moon.

Throughout the year, the museum offers special lectures and family programs. Visitors can also browse the museum store, which features an array of artwork, jewelry, and crafts.

Visiting Information
You can find the museum on the UAF campus, approximately 6 miles northwest of downtown Fairbanks. If you don't have your own transportation, the MACS Transit blue line stops at the museum. The museum operates daily in the summer (June 1 to August 31) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and in the winter (September 1 to May 31) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Admission Fees
