Experience Stunning Views on the Iceberg Lake Trail

Hikers who tackle the Iceberg Lake Trail are treated to stunning views of Mount Wilbur, Iceberg Peak, and the Continental Divide upon reaching the emerald lake. In the spring and summer, adventurers will enjoy gorgeous alpine meadows filled with wildflowers.

What to Expect on the Trail

Trail Suitability and Challenges

According to recent visitors, the trail is well-suited for avid hikers. It is mostly uphill and spans nearly 10 miles round trip, which might prove challenging for less fit individuals. Late spring and early summer are the best times to witness the floating icebergs on the lake. Visitors also noted that, despite the season, the weather can be cold or rainy, so it’s essential to be prepared.

Wildlife and Precautionary Measures

Many hikers enjoy spotting wildlife along their journey. However, it's important to note that several sections of the trail are prime bear habitats. Therefore, hiking in groups and carrying bear spray is highly recommended. Packing rain gear, plenty of water, and a picnic lunch to enjoy by the lakeside will enhance your experience.

Access and Starting Point

The trail is accessible for free with your park admission. Located in the Many Glacier region of the park, the hike begins behind the cabins at Swiftcurrent Lake. The trail initially shares the Ptarmigan Tunnel Trail for the first few miles before splitting off just past the Ptarmigan Falls. For more detailed information, you can visit the NPS website.
