Experience the Historic Buckstaff Bathhouse in Hot Springs
Treat yourself by staying at the nearby Hotel Hale, one of Hot Springs' top boutique hotels. Each of its nine suites features a large soaking tub with water sourced directly from a spring. – Justine Harrington
A Glimpse Into History
At first glance, the Buckstaff Bathhouse might resemble a typical spa, but it offers much more than just relaxation opportunities. Open since 1912, it is one of the oldest bathhouses in Hot Springs National Park and holds significant local historical value. The building, which retains its iconic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, still offers many of its original services, including baths in the city's thermal waters, massages, manicures, pedicures, and facials. Note that while massages and baths are available on a walk-in basis, appointments are required for other services.

A Variety of Experiences
Visitors have enjoyed the unique offerings at Buckstaff Bathhouse, such as the sitz baths (soaking up to the hips) and vapor cabinets (an early version of a sauna that allows your head to remain outside). Feedback about the spa staff varies, depending largely on the attendant. While some travelers praised the staff's attentiveness, others felt rushed or neglected. Many found the historical aspect of the bathhouse to be a fun experience, though they advised not to expect a traditional luxury spa visit.
The Buckstaff Bathhouse is conveniently located along Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs. After enjoying a soak, visitors can head across the street to the Bathhouse Soapery & Caldarium to pick up a souvenir soap or body product.
