Burritt on the Mountain encompasses 167 acres and offers hiking trails, incredible views of the city, a historic mansion, and a place for children and adults to learn about 19th-century farm life in the Tennessee Valley. The property was willed to the city of Huntsville in 1955 by Dr. William Burritt, and Josie's Gift Shop is named for his second wife. The barnyard animals and staff members in period dress add an authentic touch. Visitors can also participate in classes like blacksmithing, stained glass, or fiber arts; shop in the gift shop; attend summer concerts on the grounds; or enjoy cocktails and gourmet meals on selected Wednesday nights.
