Humpback whales can be seen from all of the Hawaiian islands as the region's warm, shallow waters attract them. However, the Auau Channel between Maui, Molokai, and Lanai is considered one of the world's top whale-watching destinations. While it's possible to spot these majestic creatures from shore between December and May, the best views are often obtained by signing up for a tour.

Many hotels offer whale-watching excursions, but several tour companies also operate directly from Maui. Although you may need to take a ferry to Maui, previous visitors have noted that the experience is well worth it. Tour Details

Tours typically depart from Lahaina Harbor in Maui and last around two hours. Prices vary by company, but you can expect to pay at least $50 per adult. Some tour boats are equipped with hydrophones, allowing guests to hear the whales underwater.
