Explore the Historic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis

Experience the Architectural Marvel

Capture the perfect shot on this historic pedestrian-only bridge spanning the Mississippi River. Enhance your visit with a reservation at Owamni by The Sioux Chef, where modern Indigenous cuisine awaits.

The Stone Arch Bridge is a must-visit landmark for architecture enthusiasts. This impressive 2,100-foot granite and limestone structure, featuring 23 arches, was constructed in 1883. It played a crucial role in the city’s development by facilitating the movement of people and goods into and out of Minneapolis. Designated a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1971, it remains the only stone arch bridge to have ever spanned the Mississippi River. Today, visitors can walk or bike between Father Hennepin Bluff Park on the east bank and Mill Ruins Park on the west bank.

The bridge also offers stunning views of downtown Minneapolis, especially at sunset, and has become a go-to spot for marriage proposals and wedding photographs thanks to its scenic location over St. Anthony Falls.

Plan Your Visit

Recent visitors recommend wearing comfortable shoes for a leisurely walk or bike ride and bringing a camera to capture the skyline views. To make the most of your day, explore nearby attractions like the Mill City Museum and Guthrie Theater, both less than a mile from the bridge's westside entrance. Parking is conveniently available near both ends of the bridge.

Discover St. Anthony Main

For additional activities, visit St. Anthony Main across the river from the Guthrie Theater and Mill City Museum. This area is known for its dining options, including the popular Aster Cafe, as well as a cinema and one of the Nice Ride bike-share stations, perfect for crossing the bridge.

The Stone Arch Bridge is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight and is free to access. For more information, visit the Minneapolis Parks website.
