Visiting the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is a remarkable experience, whether you're an art aficionado or simply interested in 20th-century history and pop culture.

Highlights

MoMA is home to numerous iconic contemporary pieces. Some of the notable artworks include:

  • Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon"
  • Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans"
  • Van Gogh's "Starry Night"
  • Dalí's "The Persistence of Memory"
  • Monet's "Water Lilies"

In October 2019, MoMA completed an expansion project, adding more than 40,000 square feet of gallery space. This expansion also introduced a performance studio that features live programming.

The admission fee for adults is $30, with discounted rates of $17 for students and $22 for seniors. Children aged 16 and younger can enter for free. Although some may find the cost steep, many visitors believe it is well worth the investment. You can save $2 on the ticket price by purchasing them online in advance. Be prepared for crowds, especially on rainy days, and take some time to relax in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden.

Hours

MoMA is located on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. You can reach it by taking the E or M train to the Fifth Avenue-53rd St. stop or the B, D, or F trains to Rockefeller Center. The museum operates:

  • Saturday through Thursday: 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

New York City residents can enjoy free admission on the first Friday evening of every month from 4 to 8 p.m. Additionally, MoMA houses several eateries and a gift shop, which past visitors recommend for its unique collection of items.
