Independence Hall, a red-brick, Georgian-style building, is a historically significant site where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated, drafted, and signed by our forefathers. Visitors to Independence Hall can view surviving copies of these documents and visit the Assembly Room where George Washington was appointed commander in chief of the Continental Army. Getting There

Independence Hall is situated in Independence National Historical Park in Old City, just steps from the Liberty Bell Center, making it convenient to visit both landmarks in a single trip.

Parking

Parking is available at the Independence Visitors Center at 6th and Market streets. Additional parking garages are also nearby.

Public Transport Options

• Bus: Routes 5, 9, 17, 21, 33, 38, 42, 44, 47, 48, 57, and 61 will get you to (or close to) Independence Hall, as will the Big Bus Philadelphia.
• Subway: Take the Market-Frankford line to the 5th Street Station.
• Train: If traveling via regional rail, get off at Jefferson Station.
• Philly Phlash: You can utilize this seasonal shuttle service to reach Independence Hall and other area attractions economically.

Hours and Admission

Independence Hall is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plan to arrive by 4:30 p.m. since the security screening area closes about 15 minutes before 5 p.m. Admission is available via guided tours between 10 a.m. and 4:20 p.m., with tours lasting approximately 20 minutes. No tickets are required between 9 a.m. and 9:50 a.m., during which tours are self-guided. Although tickets are technically free, there is a $1 handling fee.
