Overview of Washington Park

Many critics, travelers, and locals agree that of all of Portland's parks, Washington Park stands out as perhaps the best. This expansive park is home to several notable attractions, including the Portland Japanese Garden, the International Rose Test Garden, the World Forestry Center, Hoyt Arboretum, and various memorials commemorating pivotal points in Oregon's history.

Family-Friendly Attractions

Washington Park also boasts a variety of family-friendly attractions such as the Oregon Zoo and the Portland Children's Museum. Additionally, it features a large playground, soccer fields, tennis courts, and an archery range. Be sure to leave plenty of time for a leisurely stroll along one of the many shady paths, which are often adorned with flower displays and fountains.

Visitor Experience

Recent visitors have noted that despite the park's numerous attractions, it never feels crowded. It provides travelers with the perfect opportunity to experience nature right in the middle of the city.

Location and Access

Washington Park is situated in Southwest Portland, between West Burnside Street and U.S. Highway 26. Visitors have the option to pay for parking at $2.40 per hour, although parking space is limited. Alternatively, several public transit options are available. TriMet's Blue and Red MAX Light Rail lines serve the Washington Park MAX station. The park also offers a year-round free shuttle that stops at all major attractions within the park. Those arriving via light rail or bus can catch the shuttle on the plaza level of the Washington Park station.

Tickets and Admission

While entry to the park itself is free, some specific attractions within the park may charge admission. For detailed information, check out the Explore Washington Park website, managed by the nonprofit organization that maintains the park.
