Featuring koi ponds, arched bridges, shaded paths, and a 60-foot waterfall, the Japanese Tea Garden offers an oasis away from the bustle of downtown San Antonio. Developed in 1917, this serene garden is located in a former rock quarry. Despite its origins, the landscape today is lush and vibrant. Native and adaptive Texas tree species flourish here, and the tiered gardens are adorned with blooms throughout the year. If you need to refuel during your visit, the on-site restaurant, Jingu House, serves a variety of tasty bites such as spring rolls, sandwiches, salads, and bowls, as well as beer, wine, and sake cocktails.

Visitor Experience

Families with kids, friends, couples, and solo visitors all find this tranquil green space enjoyable. The garden is widely regarded as one of the prettiest places in the city, making it a popular spot for photo opportunities.

Hours and Tickets

The Japanese Tea Garden is free and open to the public daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. To avoid the crowds, especially on weekends, it is recommended to visit early in the morning or on a weekday for a more peaceful experience. The upper garden and pavilion areas are accessible by ramp, while the lower garden is reachable only by stairs. Free parking is available at a designated lot on the western side of Brackenridge Park.
