Introduction

Tucked beneath the Santa Monica Pier, the Heal the Bay Aquarium serves as an educational hub for both locals and tourists, illuminating the aquatic diversity of Santa Monica Bay. This modest-sized aquarium features exhibits of over 100 local species, alongside interactive activities like touch tanks and daily educational programs led by aquarium scientists. Among the creatures you can encounter here are red octopuses, sea jellies, swell sharks, and stingrays.

Previous visitors recommend the aquarium particularly for young children (ages 12 and under) due to its smaller size. While older kids and teenagers might find the displays less engaging, the knowledge and enthusiasm of the on-site staff have received high praise from past travelers.

Convenient Location

Situated beneath the pier, the aquarium can conveniently be added to a day at the beach or a visit to Pacific Park. It's also a short walk from Tongva Park, the Third Street Promenade, and Santa Monica Place, allowing visitors to comfortably stroll between these attractions. While there is no designated parking for the aquarium, numerous garages and metered spaces are available in the vicinity. Additionally, the Big Blue Bus stops and the LA Metro's Downtown Santa Monica Station are nearby.
