History and Architecture

Construction of this massive cathedral – the sixth largest in the world – began in 1907 and wasn't completed until 1990. Although the main structure is complete, work continues on the building, including extensive repairs after the 2011 earthquake. Designed in the Gothic style, the Washington National Cathedral is surrounded by gardens, creating a serene atmosphere for visitors.
