Yorktown Battlefield
All Things To Do
What Makes Yorktown Battlefield Special?
With numerous sites commemorating Colonial and Revolutionary history in the Williamsburg area, why does Yorktown Battlefield stand out? For one, it is the site where British troops surrendered to General George Washington in 1781 during the Revolutionary War. Additionally, it completes the "Historic Triangle" of southeastern Virginia's colonial sites, alongside Jamestown and Williamsburg.
Planning Your Visit to Yorktown Battlefield
Overview and Recommendations
Before visiting, consider this advice from recent tourists: if you're seeking a quick overview of Yorktown, the Yorktown Victory Center at Jamestown is your best bet. Here, you can witness a re-enactment of the monumental war and surrender. However, if you want to walk the paths that Revolutionary soldiers once trod, visit the cannons and still-dug trenches at Yorktown Battlefield. Note that Yorktown is about 15 miles southeast of central Williamsburg, while Jamestown is only about 8 miles away.
