To gain a comprehensive understanding of the American civil rights movement and ongoing global human rights struggles, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a must-visit. This 42,000-square-foot complex features both temporary and three permanent exhibits, including a remarkable collection of Martin Luther King Jr. artifacts. Within the "Voice to the Voiceless" exhibit, visitors can view papers from King's life and engage with "Fragments," a compelling metal art piece that highlights King's thoughts and writings.

Time Allotment and Visitor Impressions

Although the museum recommends setting aside about two hours to explore its exhibits, many past visitors noted that you could easily spend several hours immersed in the center's vivid and informative displays. A highlight for many is the lunch counter experience within the "Rolls Down Like Water" exhibit, which has left a lasting impression on numerous travelers.

Location and Accessibility

Situated in Atlanta's downtown area, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights is conveniently located between the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium, both of which offer fee-charging parking garages. The most economical way to reach the museum is via public transportation. The Civic Center and Peachtree Center MARTA train stations are both within walking distance, and several bus routes also serve the nearby area. Additionally, the Atlanta Streetcar's Centennial Olympic Park stop is just a short walk away.

Hours of Operation

The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ticket Prices

Admission fees are as follows: $19.99 for adults, $17.99 for seniors, and $15.99 for children ages 7 to 12. Children under 7 years old can enter for free. Additionally, if you purchase an Atlanta CityPASS, the museum can be selected as one of the optional attractions with admission covered.

Tickets grant you access to all of the museum's exhibits, as well as restrooms, water fountains, and the gift shop. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own earbuds or headphones to fully experience the audio portion of the "Lunch Counter Sit-In" exhibit.
