Attraction Introduction: Nestled in the heart of downtown Austin, the Congress Avenue Bridge houses North America's largest urban bat colony. Every evening at sunset from March to November, around 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from beneath the bridge in an awe-inspiring display. This natural spectacle draws both locals and tourists, creating a unique opportunity to experience nature in an urban setting.

Visiting Tips: For the best viewing experience, arrive at least an hour before sunset to secure a good spot. The lawn to the east of the bridge, the Statesman Bat Observation Center, and the bridge walkway are all popular viewpoints. Viewing the bats from a boat tour on Lady Bird Lake offers another interesting perspective. Consider bringing a blanket or lawn chair if you plan to watch from the banks.
