Discover the Fascinating Fiske Planetarium

Make a trip to the stars at Fiske Planetarium, located on the south end of CU Boulder's campus. First opened to the public in 1975, the planetarium provides engaging experiences to people of all ages by connecting science, technology, and the arts. Recent visitors have found the shows to be fascinating and immersive, and have appreciated the friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Unparalleled Viewing Experience

Constructed with a 65-foot diameter dome, making it the largest planetarium between Chicago and Los Angeles, Fiske Planetarium can seat 200 people. It hosts a variety of shows and presentations, including full-dome films, star talks, live speaking events, and even concerts and theatrical productions. Relax in a comfortable reclining seat while absorbing the view of 10 million stars and the Milky Way, shown by the theater's MegaStar projector.

Additional Features

The planetarium also features rotating art exhibits in the lobby. This exhibit space is open during matinee and evening shows. If stargazing at the real night sky interests you, visit Sommers-Bausch Observatory, located right next to Fiske, where free open houses are held most Friday evenings when university classes are in session.

Hours

The Fiske Planetarium's public shows, which typically run 30 minutes to an hour, are available for viewing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7 and 9 p.m. Matinee shows are available on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 1 and 3 p.m. Be aware that the planetarium may close at certain times of the year, such as during game days and school breaks. Check its website for up-to-date schedules.

Tickets

Admission costs $12 for adults and $8 for kids aged 4 to 17. Children younger than 3 do not require a ticket.

Getting Here

If arriving by car, you'll need to pay a fee ($1 to $2 per hour, depending on the time of day) to park in one of the nearby numbered campus lots, which are a short walk from the building. You can also reach the planetarium by taking public transportation to stops near the campus via the Boulder bus lines.
