Introduction

Towering over the quaint Provincetown skyline, the Pilgrim Monument, inspired by the Torre del Mangia in Siena, Italy, is an essential destination for history enthusiasts. Standing 252 feet tall, it is the tallest all-granite structure in the United States. The monument's cornerstone was laid in 1907 by President Theodore Roosevelt to commemorate the site of the Mayflower Pilgrims' first landing in Massachusetts. A climb to the top, taking roughly 10 minutes, is frequently described by visitors as worthwhile, providing one of the best vantage points on Cape Cod. The accompanying museum also receives high praise for its informative exhibits.

The Provincetown Museum

The Provincetown Museum features permanent exhibits that highlight several significant aspects of local history. These exhibits include:

  • The arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims
  • The Wampanoag Tribe
  • The town's maritime history
  • The early days of modern American theater in Provincetown
  • The construction of the Pilgrim Monument

Additionally, the museum houses a re-creation of a 19th-century sea captain's parlor at home and his quarters at sea, as well as a diorama depicting the signing of the Mayflower Compact aboard the Mayflower in Provincetown Harbor.

Hours of Operation

Located near the waterfront in Provincetown, the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum operates seasonally from April to November. Generally, it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Monday.

Admission Prices

The admission fees for both the tower and the museum are as follows:

  • Adults: $20.94

An additional $15 is charged for parking, which is a common complaint among visitors. To make the most out of your parking fee, consider leaving your car in the tower's lot for the day while you explore the rest of Provincetown.
