What Makes Optimist Hall a Must-Visit?

Optimist Hall, a former textile mill turned food hall, features a variety of local eateries, bars, and shops, as well as a few regional chains. It’s a popular hangout for both locals and visitors. Several of the stalls initially started as beloved food trucks in the Charlotte area, including Papi Queso, a gourmet grilled cheese stall, and Dumpling Lady, one of the food hall’s most popular vendors. With choices ranging from salads and smoothies to pizza, sushi, Ethiopian cuisine, and burgers, it's an ideal place to bring a group. There's ample space both inside and outside for enjoying your meal.

Tips for Visiting

  • Optimist Hall is a very popular spot. It gets busy at lunch during the week and is packed on the weekends.
  • Most of the food stalls don’t open until 11 a.m., but the local coffee shop, Undercurrent, and Suárez, one of the Charlotte area’s most beloved pastry shops, are open in the morning. Morning is a great time to visit for a quieter experience.

Atmosphere

Optimist Hall attracts families with young kids in the morning and weekend afternoons. During the workweek, it's a popular lunch spot for office employees and remote workers. In the evenings and weekends, the atmosphere shifts to a more adult crowd enjoying the on-site brewery and cocktail bar.

Other Activities at Optimist Hall

In addition to its food offerings, Optimist Hall features a few interesting shops worth exploring. These include Archer Paper Goods, a stationery store with adorable cards, and The Merchant, a vintage home goods store.

Getting to Optimist Hall

Located in the Optimist Park neighborhood, Optimist Hall is about 2 miles east of the city center (known as Uptown). It is within walking distance of the Parkwood light rail station.
