Family-Friendly Skiing at Grand Targhee Resort
For those of you who aren't quite ready for the black diamond slopes at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, the Grand Targhee Resort offers easier, more family-friendly runs. Located above Alta, Wyoming – a small town about 45 miles northwest of Jackson – you'll find more than 2,500 acres of ski terrain that see an average of 500 inches of snowfall each year. Targhee is beloved for its wide open slopes, variety of excellent terrain and old-school vibes. It’s also known as the snowiest of the area’s ski hills and a great place to find yourself on a powder day. Here, a sizable portion of the resort is beginner and intermediate skier-friendly, and Grand Targhee offers a full-service ski school.
Visitor Experiences
Recent travelers enjoyed their time at Grand Targhee Resort and noted that the resort's smaller size meant fewer crowds, which was a much-appreciated reprieve from Jackson Hole's more congested slopes. Skiers and snowboarders raved about the low-key vibe and deep powder after storms. Others, however, said if you're a skier who's looking for epic mountain terrain, stay on the Jackson side.
Resort Hours
Grand Targhee Resort is open year-round, offering visitors a variety of warm-weather activities such as lift-served and cross-country mountain biking, hiking, and swimming. The ski area operates from late November to April, with lifts running between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, with shorter hours on select lifts.
Lift Tickets
Full-day lift tickets in the winter cost about $120 for adults ages 13 and older, with discounts available for seniors and children younger than 12. Keep in mind, ticket prices may be higher on select days or if purchased close to your vacation date. For more information, check out the Grand Targhee Resort website.
