History of Malibu Pier

Constructed in 1905, the Malibu Pier initially served a practical purpose, being used to ship fruit and grains and receive building materials. In 1934, it was opened to the public and soon became a fishing hotspot. Fast forward 90 years, and the pier has evolved into a state park and a bustling hub of diverse activities.

A Hub of Activity

During weekends and summer months, Malibu Pier is teeming with activity. Friends enjoy brunch at the farm-to-table hotspot, Malibu Farm Café, while surfers return from catching waves. Fishing enthusiasts wait patiently for their next catch, and tourists browse for souvenirs at Ranch at the Pier.

Tips for Visiting Malibu Pier

Although visitors often note that there's little unique about Malibu Pier compared to attractions like the Santa Monica Pier, its location is incredibly convenient. The pier's proximity to Surfrider Beach, Malibu Lagoon, Adamson House, and Malibu Country Mart makes it an excellent base for exploring Malibu, especially if your time is limited or you don't plan to venture into the Santa Monica Mountains or farther up the coast.

Scenic Views and Atmosphere

Travelers have praised the scenic views and the laid-back atmosphere that the pier offers. It's a perfect spot to relax and take in the beauty of the surrounding area.

Visitor Information

Malibu Pier is located a little more than 10 miles west of Santa Monica. It's open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Getting There

The Metro No. 134 bus stops at 23017 Pacific Coast Highway, right across the road from Malibu Pier. While there is a paid parking lot available, with rates varying seasonally, street parking can be hard to find on busy days.

For more information, visit the official Malibu Pier website.
