Kennywood Amusement Park: Thrills for Everyone
From the major splash at the bottom of the Pittsburgh Plunge water ride to the 230-foot drop on the Phantom's Revenge roller coaster, Kennywood offers thrilling experiences for all. Located along the Monongahela River, this 150-acre amusement park features roller coasters, water rides, carousels, bumper cars, 3D experiences, a 4D theater, paddle boats, and more. Popular rides include the Thunderbolt, a wooden roller coaster from 1924, and the Turtle, built in 1927, which provides scenic views of the river valley. For young adventurers between 36 and 56 inches tall, the park’s Kiddieland is perfect.
A Rich History
Kennywood stands out with its rich history, starting as a trolley park in 1898, catering to mill workers and their families. Today, it blends nostalgic charm with modern attractions and is one of only two amusement parks that have been designated as National Historic Landmarks. Lost Kennywood is a special section of the park that replicates the architecture and design styles of rides from yesteryears.
Events and Festivals
Kennywood isn't just about rides. The park hosts various events and festivals throughout the year. Pierogi Fest in September showcases over 40 vendors offering different versions of this beloved Pittsburgh snack. Phantom Fright Nights, held in the fall, attract thrill-seekers with haunted houses, while Kennywood’s Holiday Lights event offers a festive experience with twinkling lights, holiday treats, rides, and Pennsylvania’s tallest Christmas tree.
