Grant Grove Restaurant, located in Kings Canyon National Park, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner using locally-grown and organic ingredients. One highly recommended dish is the California flatbread topped with pesto and artichoke hearts. Diners can enjoy their meals with views of the giant sequoias and the scenic Bradley Meadow. – Danielle Bauter

Grant Grove Village

Grant Grove Village, situated within Kings Canyon National Park (adjacent to Sequoia National Park), offers a variety of amenities. Visitors can find a visitor center, an ATM, cabins and a lodge, the Grant Grove Restaurant, a grocery market (with beer and wine options), a gift shop featuring Native American crafts, and the renowned General Grant Tree within walking distance.

General Grant Tree

Officially named after Ulysses S. Grant in 1867 and nicknamed the "Nation's Christmas Tree" by President Calvin Coolidge in 1926, the General Grant Tree stands as the second-largest sequoia (after General Sherman) and the third-largest tree overall in the world. It reaches approximately 268 feet in height, with a trunk circumference of 107 feet. Its trunk's estimated weight is 565 tons, and the tree is believed to be between 3,000 and 4,000 years old.

Visitor Experience

Visitors to Grant Grove enjoy walking among the towering sequoias. While some note that there are fewer trees here than in the nearby Giant Forest, others believe that the sequoias in Grant Grove appear taller. Most visitors recommend exploring this forested area, particularly on weekdays when it is less crowded. For detailed hiking options, check out the NPS website.

Hours

Grant Grove is open to visitors 24/7, year-round, with access included in the park admission fee. However, the operating hours for various facilities within Grant Grove Village can vary.

Getting Around

During the winter, it's advised to use Highway 180 to reach Grant Grove Village, as the roads connecting Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park may be closed due to snowfall.
