Watching a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an essential experience in Denver. There's no such thing as a bad seat; in fact, the best views are in the back, where you can see stunning sunset views over the red rocks and city skyline. – Amanda Norcross, Senior Content & SEO Strategist

Experiencing Red Rocks Park

With its breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, extensive hiking trails, and vibrant cinnamon-hued sandstone cliffs, Red Rocks Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Spanning over 700 acres, this impressive park offers a fascinating geographic transition between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains.

Hiking Trails

If your visit is short, consider stretching your legs along the Trading Post Trail. This nearly 1.5-mile-long path weaves through rust-colored buttes, offering some spectacular scenery. Before heading out, visitors recommend stopping by the visitor center for information on the park’s history and trails.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Another significant attraction is the expansive amphitheater, which has hosted legendary performers like the Beatles, Tom Petty, and John Denver. The theater, naturally formed by the red rocks, is renowned for its incredible acoustics and vibrant atmosphere. Even if a concert isn't on your agenda, many travelers agree that the theater is worth a visit for photos and to explore the visitor center’s displays dedicated to past performances.

Tips for Visiting

Whether you're visiting for a concert or to explore the trails, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • The park is situated at an elevation of 6,450 feet, so staying hydrated and taking it easy on the trails can help you avoid altitude sickness.
  • Even if you're attending a concert, you might have to walk uphill from the parking lot, which can be challenging for those with limited mobility due to numerous stairs and dirt paths.

Getting There

You will need a car to reach Red Rocks Park, located about 16 miles west of downtown Denver. If you don't have personal transportation, consider signing up for one of the best Denver tours, many of which include day trips to the park. The site also features restrooms, a casual restaurant, and concession stands.

Hours and Pricing

The park is open daily from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset, with free admission. On days when concerts are scheduled, the park closes around 2 p.m. The visitor center is free to explore and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from March through October, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from November through February. Please note that the visitor center is currently under construction and closed until further notice. Concert ticket prices vary based on demand; more information on upcoming shows and ticket prices can be found on the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre website.
