In addition to Pane e Vino at the museum, two other outstanding restaurants owned by Chef James Boyce are located near the museum: Cotton Row and Commerce Kitchen. Both highly recommended. – Connie Pearson
About Huntsville Museum of Art
The Huntsville Museum of Art houses more than 3,000 works of art, with many focusing on 19th and 20th-century American art. This relatively small but excellent attraction is located in downtown Huntsville on Church Street at one end of Big Spring International Park.
Key Exhibits
One of the most stunning exhibits is "Buccellati: A Silver Menagerie," the largest collection of Buccellati silver on public display in the world. A generous benefactor donated the collection, and you will marvel at the craftsmanship of pieces like a flamingo, giraffe, deer, and many smaller items. This exhibit is available for viewing at any time. Other exhibits on permanent display include "American Studio Glass" and paintings by notable Americans such as Andy Warhol and James McNeill Whistler. Moreover, there's an entire exhibit devoted to art created by American women.
Interactive Galleries
ART LAB and A Walk Through Time are interactive galleries designed to teach children the elements of art and foster an appreciation for art and artists. Additionally, a series of temporary exhibits – which have showcased everything from Native American- and Indigenous-inspired glassworks to food-themed works – are regularly available. If you visit in the winter, you can also enjoy the ice-skating rink set up behind the museum, which is an annual fundraising event held from late November to early January.
Visitor Amenities
Visitors often praise the convenience of free parking in a lot adjacent to the museum. Those with mobility issues especially appreciate that all exhibits are on the main floor, eliminating the need to navigate stairs or search for an elevator. Overall, everyone agrees that the museum boasts a fantastic collection.
Parking Information
By registering through PMC Pay and obtaining a code at the reception desk, you can park in the adjacent lot without charge. However, note that since the museum is closed on Mondays, you'll have to pay to park there if you want to enjoy area amenities that day, including Pane e Vino Pizzeria located on the ground floor of the museum, and Big Spring International Park.
Operating Hours
The museum operates from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. On Sundays, it is open from noon to 5 p.m. The museum remains closed on Mondays.
Admission Fees
Tickets to the museum cost $12 for adults, $5 for children aged 6 to 11, and are free for children aged 5 and younger. Select events and activities, including the annual ice skating, may have additional fees. You can also benefit from a $5 admission fee on Thursday evenings after 5 p.m., which allows you to enjoy the galleries before walking to dinner at one of the fine restaurants downtown.
