Spectacular Desert Landscape

Dead Horse Point State Park may not be as famous as some national parks, but it boasts desert landscape views that can rival those of Canyonlands National Park. Located in close vicinity to Canyonlands, visitors can actually see one park from the other. While the Colorado River is not visible from most spots in Canyonlands, it is prominently on display at Dead Horse as it makes its way around the iconic river bend. Additionally, Dead Horse offers nearly 17 miles of mountain biking single track, distinguishing it from Canyonlands.

A Stellar Destination

Past visitors highly recommend stargazing at Dead Horse Point State Park. Recognized by DarkSky International, the park is one of the best spots to view the night sky, including the Milky Way. Visitors have the option to stargaze independently or join one of Dead Horse's guided nighttime hikes. The park also has easier mountain bike trails and many visitors suggest renting a yurt and enjoying the sunset from Dead Horse Point.

Location and Hours

The Dead Horse Point State Park visitor center is located about 30 miles outside of Moab. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on certain holidays. Meanwhile, the park itself is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tickets

Single-day admission passes cost $20 per vehicle (for up to eight people) and $10 for motorcyclists. If you're biking or hiking in, the fee is $10 per group of four. Passes can be bought at the entry booth or in advance online. For camping, additional fees start at $40 per night. Please note that America the Beautiful and other interagency passes are not accepted here, as this is a Utah State Park, not a federal park.
