The Palm Springs Art Museum
Founded in 1938, the Palm Springs Art Museum boasts an impressive collection of both permanent and rotating works. Featured artists include landscape painter Thomas Moran and renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The museum hosts ever-changing exhibits, ranging from studies of impressionism and contemporary sculpture to pop and graphic art and architectural themes. Its permanent collection is extensive, with over 12,000 works spread across 28 galleries.
Additional Locations
In addition to its primary facility, the museum also owns the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, located less than a mile south of the main museum. Additionally, the institution oversees Frey House II, the former residence of architect Albert Frey.
Tips for Visiting
Despite the museum's vast collection, its size is manageable, allowing visitors to see almost everything within an hour or two. Free entry is offered every Thursday evening, and no reservations are required. It's a pleasant break from the downtown area, and visitors can enjoy strolling through the outdoor sculpture garden if the weather permits. Enhance your experience by joining a free docent-led tour.
